Biography

"Poetry is the way we help give name to the nameless, so it can be thought." - Audre Lorde

My favorite part about working for CASS is…
Day after day, I get to listen to and help students make sense of their stories: not just the stories of what led them to this moment in their education, but those internal ones we're still learning to tell. As W. H. Auden writes, "All that we are not stares back at what we are." Taking control of one's educational narrative and its possibilities is one of the most empowering experiences a student can have, and it's one I'm continually grateful to share in as an advisor.

I chose to work in Higher Education because…
I've had the privilege of spending most of my life in education, and I want others to have the opportunities I had. Better yet, I want others to know their voices and experiences are what will make higher ed. the community it's intended to be. What's an education worth if you can't share it with others?

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Growing up I was (and still am) a huge Batman fan, so I'd have to say a detective. Not altogether surprising, but I turned my love of investigation (and stories!) into a lifelong career in writing, art, and learning. There's nothing more mysterious than the art we've not yet made!
