Caitlin Marie Alvarez

Academic Advisor- Political Science (students with last names K-Z) and Sociology

Undergraduate Major:
English, Creative Writing concentration

Some of my favorite places on campus include...
The Observation Deck at Memorial Stadium and the Spencer Museum of Art

One of my favorite KU memories includes…
Road tripping with friends to the 2008 Orange Bowl. We stopped in Chattanooga, TN for New Years, cheered on our Jayhawks in Miami, FL, and then made a stop in New Orleans, LA before heading back to the heartland!

Favorite quote:
"As they become known to and accepted by us, our feelings and the honest exploration of them become sanctuaries and spawning grounds for the most radical and daring of ideas." ~Audre Lorde "Poetry is Not a Luxury" Sister Outsider: Essay and Speeches. Crossing Press, 1984.

My favorite books:
The book that changed how I write: Humanimal by Bhanu Kapil. The book that changed how I see the world: Distinction: A Social Critique of the Judgement of Taste by Pierre Bourdieu (translated by Richard Nice).

My favorite series:
(At the moment) Fleabag (and honestly, just about anything involving the pen of Phoebe Waller-Bridge). Honorable Mention: Aaron Sorkin's The Newsroom.

My favorite music:
Varies. For example, what I listen to while at the gym varies greatly from what I listen to while working, which again, varies from what I'll venture to a venue to enjoy.
