What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to be everything.  I saw myself traveling, being an architect, studying history and becoming a marketing executive.  What I found is that I loved thinking about the possibilities and that is why I love advising so much.  I now get to help others find the possibilities and helping them explore all of the great things you can learn here at KU.

Advice to college students:
Keep a semester calendar in a place where you can look at it daily.  The Academic Achievement and Access Center has one you can download that includes key dates and will fit in your notebook.  It is so important to understand when things are going to get tricky.  You don’t want to be surprised when you realize that you have two midterms and a paper due all in the same week that also happens to be when your friends are visiting.  By having an overview of the semester you can start to mentally plan for the heavy study times and also when you can take a break and go home to do your laundry.

What is at the top of your bucket list?
Travel is always on the top of my bucket list but so hard to choose where.  I would love to go to Japan and spend time looking at all of the stationary stores and trying the local foods.  I have also wanted to go to Morocco since I was a little girl.  I just imagine how you can smell the spices in the air and the wonderful street stores where you haggle over the price of some trinket.

Favorite quote:
“A person gains polish through the daily grind”.  My Mom shared this quote with me when I started in my first full time job.  I look at it when I have a hard day or make a mistake.  I would love to tell you that I’m nicely polished and at the fine gem stage but I still have my rough spots so I keep grinding.

If you only had 1 day to explore Lawrence, what would you do?
You have to go to Mass street, hopefully on a wonderfully crisp fall day.  Breakfast would be at The Roost or Ladybird Dinner, where I would linger and catch up with my friends over some great eats.  I would then spend the day shopping downtown (maybe head over to North Lawrence to the second hand stores) then grab a beer at free state.  That evening I would want find where the music is at maybe at the Replay, Jazzhaus or the Bottleneck.  I always like to finish an evening out at Henry’s.
